Dr. Benjamin Barankin
Dr. Benjamin Barankin is a board-certified, award-winning Toronto dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical and cosmetic care of the skin. His undergraduate university training was in Life Sciences and Psychology at Queen’s University, followed by medical school at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Barankin then completed a five-year dermatology residency at the University of Alberta that resulted in him being awarded a fellowship in Dermatology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Anatoli Freiman
Dr. Anatoli Freiman is a board-certified Toronto dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, laser and cosmetic care of the skin. Dr. Freiman completed Honours Physiology undergraduate training & medical school training at McGill University and dermatology residency at the University of Toronto. Dr. Anatoli Freiman further pursued specialized training at the top academic dermatology centres, including New York University, Harvard University, and the world-renowned St. John’s Institute of Dermatology. Dr. Freiman is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Robert S. Backstein MD, FRCSC
Dr. Robert Steven Backstein MD, FRCS(C) is a fully qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeon who holds a Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He graduated and completed his plastic surgery residency training at the University of Toronto Medical School, and has been recognized by multiple scientific publications in major medical journals.
Dr. Backstein has been in the practice of plastic and cosmetic surgery for 17 years. His private practice is currently located at 5109 Steeles Avenue West. Dr. Backstein is also affiliated with Toronto Dermatology Centre, providing many OHIP and non-OHIP/private services; including removal of moles, cysts and lipomas, scar revision, and the removal of skin cancers (e.g. melanoma, basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, keratoacanthoma) among many other treatments.
Dr. Daniel N. Sauder MD, FRCPC, FACP
Dr. Daniel N. Sauder, M.D., is past chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is also past Chief of Dermatology at University of Toronto. Dr. Sauder has held senior positions with biotechnology companies and has assisted in the development of numerous novel biologics. He is past head of Dermatology at University Medical Centre of Princeton. Currently he practices general dermatology as well as consulting for biotech companies.
Dr. Sauder trained at McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal and McMaster University Medical School. He completed his Dermatology training at the Cleveland Clinic and the National Institutes of Health.
He is past president of the Canadian Dermatology Association, past and founding president of the Canadian Society for Investigative Dermatology and founding editor of the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery. He has also served on numerous other editorial boards, including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Lymphokine Research, Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, and International Journal of Immunopathology and Pharmacology, and Experts Review of Clinical Immunology.
His research has focused on the molecular mechanism of the cutaneous (skin) immune response. He was instrumental in developing the field of cutaneous cytokine biology by identifying the role of certain immune system molecules, interleukins and cytokines, in inflammatory skin diseases and tumors. Dr. Sauder has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards. He is a highly regarded clinician, educator and investigator.
Dr. Maxwell B. Sauder MD, FRCPC
Dr. Maxwell Sauder is a board-certified dermatologist in Canada and the United States with additional fellowship training in cutaneous oncology at Harvard Medical School. In addition to his private practice in Toronto, he is an Instructor in Dermatology at Harvard Medical School and Associate Physician at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where he focuses on cutaneous oncology and skin toxicities of anti-cancer treatments. Dr. Sauder is pursuing cutting edge clinical and translational research on these topics.
Dr. Sauder is well published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, referenced on www.uptodate.com and won several awards including the Partner’s President Prize at Harvard and The Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada’s Detweiler Fellowship Award. His publications have covered topics such as eczema, patient education, aesthetic dermatology, cutaneous oncology, sun safety, psoriasis, biologics, hemangiomas, adverse drug reactions, contact dermatitis and a variety of complex medical dermatology conditions.
Dr. Sauder earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at McMaster University and completed a five-year residency in dermatology at The University of Ottawa where he was the chief resident and received The D.C. Montgomery Resident Award for excellence in research. He is an active member of the Canadian Dermatology Association where he is a member of the Sun Awareness Working Group. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association.
Dr. Jennifer Upitis HBSc, MD, CCFP
Dr. Jennifer A. Upitis completed her Honours Bachelor of Life Science’s at Queen’s University. She then went on to graduate with Distinction from University of Alberta Medical School in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Alberta, Dr. Upitis obtained a Diplomate Degree in Dermatology from Harvard University.
During this time she received specialized training from internationally renowned scholars in the fields of medical dermatology, cosmetic and laser techniques and aesthetic medicine. She regularly attends numerous courses, seminars and conferences in order to keep abreast of the newest advances in dermatological surgery, laser treatments, medical and cosmetic technology. She is a certified injector for Botox® and a variety of fillers (e.g. Restylane®, Juvederm®). As well, Dr Upitis has a Focused Practice Designation in Dermatology as recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ontario Medical Association.
Dr. Upitis works exclusively as an associate at the Toronto Dermatology Centre. Societal memberships include the Canadian and Ontario Medical Associations (CMA/OMA), Toronto Western Hospital Dermatology Journal Club, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and American Association of Aesthetic Medicine. Dr. Upitis is Past President of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine Association.
Dr. Norman Wasel, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Norman Wasel is an experienced clinician in Dermatology. He maintains a very active clinical practice, offering his patients access to a full range of medical Dermatology services. He serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, and is a licensed Dermatologist in both Alberta and Ontario.
Dr. Wasel trained in Dermatology at the University of Alberta, following medical studies at the University of Manitoba, and pre-medical studies at the University of Winnipeg where he was awarded the Gold Medal in Sciences.
Dr. Valerie Yanofsky, HBSc, MD, DABD
Dr. Yanofsky is a board certified Dermatologist with extensive training in both medical and cosmetic Dermatology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she graduated magna cum laude and with honors in Neuroscience. She was then accepted on a merit-based scholarship to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, from which she received her Doctor in Medicine with special distinction in Dermatology. After completing a one-year internship in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in New York, she went on to complete her Dermatology Residency at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was elected to the position of chief resident in her final year.
In addition to her extensive clinical training, Dr. Yanofsky has also participated in multiple different research studies, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters. She has been invited to present her research at several International Dermatology Conferences.
Dr. Jill Greenspoon, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Jill Greenspoon is a board-certified Dermatologist who takes pride in providing comprehensive and compassionate care to all her patients. Her extensive training has shaped her as an expert in all facets of medical and cosmetic dermatology. In particular, Dr. Greenspoon recently completed advanced training to refine her skills in cosmetic and laser dermatology under the guidance of several North American experts in the cosmetic subspecialty.
Dr. Greenspoon completed both her medical degree and honours bachelor of medical science at the University of Western Ontario, receiving several scholarships and awards for her leadership, community service, and academic excellence. Her residency training in Dermatology was completed at the University of Toronto, where she was recognized for both her clinical and teaching performances.
In addition to her training, Dr. Greenspoon is a published author with numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has given presentations at national and international conferences. She has a love of teaching, which is shown in her active involvement in the Dermatology curriculum development and teaching of medical students and residents at the University of Western Ontario, McMaster University and the University of Toronto. Dr. Greenspoon is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (FRCPC), and a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association, Toronto Dermatologic Society, and the American Academy of Dermatology.
