My answer is always the same. When patients ask me what ingredient is most likely to make a major visible improvement in their skin, hands down, it is Retinol. Of course with Retinol, it is imperative to use sunblock as well, so I guess I kinda cheat on the answer with a two-for. Few skin care ingredients have been as extensively studied—and proven—as retinoids. This vitamin A derivative has skin benefits that range from improvement in visible signs of aging to reduction in acne and brown spots….

Dr. Benjamin Barankin was quoted in the latest issue of Elle Canada in an article called “Skin care know-how: stop bullying your skin.” This article on the common and frustrating skin condition acne talks about switching up your cleanser, trying to treat or extract your own blemishes, and exfoliating of skin. He also warns how poking and squeezing acne lesions can result in inflammation and scarring of the skin. Click here to view the article.

The following are some recent dermatology articles published in the terrific magazine Canadian SKIN which is available in every dermatologist’s office in Canada.
