In the weekend edition of the Globe & Mail, the regular Beauty columnist of “Ask Bahar Niramwalla” discusses the benefits of facials, and in particular highlights the value of going to a professional. As she notes, facials performed by a professional (e.g. in a medical clinic) are more than a temple massage and steam – professional facials clean deeper, can perform extractions, and can address serious skin issues like acne and dehydration. A top notch esthetician should know which questions to ask, recognize issues and remedy them…that said, some are more complex and a dermatologist on hand can be very helpful to determine the diagnosis and often a synergistic treatment plan. She notes that many people benefit from facials each month, while others may require them only 2-3 times per year. Your esthetician should also be able to point out to you what you can do at home to maintain the benefits of your facial – e.g. serums, masks, exfoliants, Dermaroller, & Clarisonic. As she correctly points out, “a slight change in your daily routine based on professional recommendations could save you both time and money in the long run”, and most importantly give you great, healthy skin.
