A report published in the recent British Medical Journal showed an increased risk of basal (29%) and squamous cell cancers (67%) in persons using indoor tanning salons. Choose a spray tan, rather than a tanning bed cancer causing tan!
Early treatment of atopic dermatitis can change the natural course of the disease and increase the odds that flareups will not continue into adulthood according to pediatric dermatologist Dr. Elaine Siegfried of St. Louis University Health Sciences Center.
A study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that two additional portions of fruit in your diet for six weeks can result in your skin having a healthier glow. Those participants in the study who boosted their intake of fruits and vegetables over the study period showed a change in skin color toward a “golden, healthy glow.”
Medical News Today, investigators from Leeds Metropolitan University found thyme, marigold and myrrh tinctures were all beneficial in killing the P. acnes bacteria involved in acne, with thyme being the most effective. They found that thyme had even better antibacterial effects than over the counter benzoyl peroxide.
A small (45 patients) recent study out of Edmonton found that when you used a combination of an antibiotic pill and a probiotic, there was a synergistic effect in the treatment of acne and fewer side effects.
Another recent study published Sept. 25 in the journal mBio found a group of harmless viruses that live alongside acne-causing bacteria (P.acnes) which may have the power to stop acne before it starts. This may indeed be a very useful targetted killing of acne bacteria, although it may be some time before something like this hits the market.
