Spotting a basal cell skin cancer – the most common cancer in humans:

Practically each day of my dermatology practice, I hear the familiar words “it bleeds and scabs, but doesn’t really seem to heal.” For those in dermatology, this connotes a likely diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Although this is the most common skin cancer and the least likely cancer to kill you, it can in fact lead to significant disfigurement if left for too long. In particular, “non-healing sores” in and around the eyes, nose and ears can be particularly destructive. Thus, if you have a wound or sore that won’t heal, think BCC and see your dermatologist right away.
