At Toronto Dermatology Centre, we are so excited to be offering 2 different applications. The first is done with microneedling and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). This technique has been featured on episodes of The Doctors and can stimulate your own collagen by up to 1000%!
A small amount of your blood is drawn, and it is then placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins rapidly to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. Your practitioner then applies the platelets onto the area to be treated, often the face for anti-aging purposes, but other areas can be treated as well. Using the Eclipse micro pen Elite, the platelets are infused into your skin, resulting in an abundance of essential growth factors being deposited directly into the skin. Prior to treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to relieve any discomfort.
Immediately after the treatment, the skin will appear rosy to red, depending on the depth of the treatment and the skin may feel tight. The next day, any redness will be reduced to a pale pink, and there is no real downtime involved. Within days, the skin appears fuller and healthier, however real results won’t be visible until about 4-8 weeks after treatment. For anti-aging, the recommended number of treatments is 2-3 done about 4-6 weeks apart. For scars, such as acne or surgical, the patient may require 3-6 treatments, about 6 weeks apart. Bonus: stretch marks can also be successfully treated with PRP with nice results.
The second application available with PRP is for hair loss. This time, the platelets are injected directly into the area of hair loss. 3-6 treatments, on average, can restore a significant amount of hair to the patient. Imagine being able to grow your own hair back without surgery, without hair plugs. No more comb overs!!!
As a side note, I had the treatment with the micro pen performed on me recently. Although it is too soon yet to see full results, my face already looks fuller and healthier. Is it possible that my pores already look smaller too? I swear they do! I am counting down the days until I can get my next treatment done.
