Alcohol intake affects risk of melanoma skin cancer

Researchers from a number of countries analyzed 6200 cases of melanoma from previous studies and found that moderate-to-heavy alcohol use increase the risk of melanoma by 20%. The risk increased proportionately with the amount of alcohol consumed, which led to an estimated 55% greater risk of melanoma. Past studies had shown alcohol use increasing the severity of sunburn which is a major risk factor for skin cancer.
