In the summer issue of Canadian SKIN, the question of when to be referred to see a dermatologist for your acne is reviewed. There are many scenarios when a true skin expert is required, including: when you or your doctor are not sure of the diagnosis, when acne is not improving despite what you’ve tried over the counter or as prescribed by your GP, if any acne scarring is noticed, when acne affects more than the face (e.g. chest, back and/or shoulders too), or when there are psychosocial effects of your acne (e.g. depression, anxiety).
