Visiting a Medical Esthetician

When is it appropriate to visit a medical esthetician? On a daily basis patients will call our centre wondering if they need a referral to see one of our esteemed dermatologists. The simple answer is yes. If you are a new patient, a referral is required for all medical skin problems (e.g. acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, mole checks, skin cancers, rashes, skin infections). Cosmetic issues such as Botox and fillers, and lasers do not require a referral. However, not all skin concerns need be addressed, or initially addressed by one of our dermatologists.

A patient suffering broken vessels on the face, in the form of telangiectasia or flushing with or without broken vessels, such as rosacea, can be addressed on the cosmetics side of our clinic. With the help of BBL (broadband light) laser, proper home care, and education in the dos and don’ts of your everyday skin care maintenance, a medical esthetician is able to successfully improve the look and feel of your skin.

All forms of acne can be improved with various skin care treatments and home care. Although tougher cases may require the added benefit of oral or topical prescription medication, requiring a visit to our dermatologist, quite often chemical peels, microdermabrasion, facials and certain laser treatments mingled with specific cleansers and other products may bring you very nice results.

We are able to fade sun damage in the form of pigment, reduce fine lines and help to add volume to the skin via Dermaroller micro-needling, Profractional laser resurfacing, facials and medical grade skin care products. We provide home treatments that will fade melasma and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation along with BBL laser.

For those looking to increase lash length, reduce body hair, and reduce acne or surgical scars, a medical esthetician is the appropriate person to start the conversation with. Dark circles under the eyes or puffiness under the eyes are a common concern that we target as well.

Although our dermatologists are the only people at our clinic that do injectable treatments such as Botox or fillers, (to ensure optimal results and safety), an initial consult with us will help to answer all of your questions. Once again, there is no referral needed to see our dermatologists for injectables, by the way.

Basically, if it isn’t urgent, there is a good chance one of our medical estheticians can be contacted to help you. Without the need for a referral from your doctor, we can get you in sooner and start improving your skin right away, as well as offering evening and weekend hours.

For all enquiries, be sure to call us at the clinic at (416) 633-0001 x 2 or email us at [email protected], so that we can direct you to the best person to help you with your skin.
