The Eyes Have It

Your eyes are one of the first things people see when they look at you. Unfortunately they can also be the first area to show the signs of aging. Aging eyes can make you appear tired, stressed and older than you really are. It is important to choose the right eye care to help prevent and reverse signs of aging so you can put your best face forward. Specific eye-area issues vary from person to person, and range from dark under eye circles and puffiness to sagging skin, crepiness and wrinkles. There are a variety of medical grade topical treatments that help restore your eyes to a more youthful state.

Dark circles are among the most common eye area complaint, and there are many underlying causes. Not enough sleep, allergies, a build-up of pigment and even genetics can all contribute to this problem. As we age, we lose volume in our face, and the under eye or tear trough area is often affected. Without the fatty layer lying between the skin and the blood vessels, a dark bluish colour can result. To “illuminate” the eye area where pigment from sun damage is present, you need ingredients that help strengthen and rebuild delicate skin, reduce the appearance of pigment, and brighteners that give an instant boost to help your eyes look fresh. SkinMedica TNS Illuminating Eye Cream™ contains all of the above, including the patented TNS® plus peptides to improve appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as skin firmness and elasticity. To help constrict the blood vessels under the eyes, SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Cream will do the trick. Other benefits of this cream include improvement in puffiness and hydration. To build up collagen under the eyes, and even all over the face, I suggest Clayton Shagal Colhy Gel. I have been using it for years, and I have been told I look younger now than I did 5 years ago.

Dry skin or crepiness around the eyes can make fine lines and wrinkles look worse. The thin layers of skin around the eyes need hydration and ingredients designed to repair damage without irritation. By combining growth factors, peptides, antioxidants and intense moisturizers you have the perfect cocktail for rejuvenation and repair. SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair™ treatment cream helps tackle all of the major eye area concerns, plumps up fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin elasticity. Optical brighteners and pigment-fighting ingredients target dark circles both immediately and for the long-term. And finally, how could we talk about eye care without mentioning Retinol? Retinol can repair damaged skin cells like no other ingredient. Fine lines and wrinkles will soften and some may virtually disappear. Known as a Radical Anti-Aging item, ZO Intense Eye Cream is the crème de la crème with a whopping 0.5% medical grade, pure Retinol. You may pay a little more, but it lasts a long time as such a small amount will do the trick. Don’t forget that almost all eye creams are meant to be applied along the orbital bone. Coming in too close to the eye, especially when using products with active ingredients, can cause dark circles, puffiness and irritation. Remember to remove all eye make up at night, wear sunglasses to avoid squinting, get enough sleep, and shop wisely when purchasing your home eye care. It may take some time, but with medical grade eye creams and serums, great results can be achieved!
