Tanning beds may increase risk of having skin cancer.

10% of American currently use tanning beds. A study tracking 73,000 nurses found that tanning beds increased skin cancer risk for basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma. Another study recently found that for every 4 visits per year to a tanning bed, the risk of BCC and SCC rose 15% and risk for melanoma rose 11%. It appears that using tanning beds in the younger age range had the strongest effect on skin cancer risk.
