Skin cancers can sometimes be itchy and/or painful

A recent scientific research study in Archives of Dermatology looked at about 500 patients who received treatment for basal cell cancer (BCC; the most common skin cancer and the most common cancer in fact overall) or squamous cell cancer (SCC). The researchers found that itch was the most common symptom reported for both skin cancers – 43% of patients with SCC and 33% of patients with BCC reported this symptom. Interestingly, pain was much more common in patients with squamous cell cancer (SCC) at approximately 40% than in those with basal cell cancer (BCC) at nearly 18%.
