In the April/May 2013 issue of The Chronicle of Skin & Allergy, our very own Dr. Benjamin Barankin is quoted discussing the new Health Canada approved slow release sub-antimicrobial dose antibiotic therapy for rosacea. This medication has a 30mg immediate release, and 10mg slow release doxycycline which results in far fewer side effects such as stomach upset, yeast infections, or sun sensitivity. Already available in the U.S. for some time, this new medication is more effective and safer than existing antibiotics for rosacea (especially the form of rosacea that has papules and pustules – almost like adult acne).
