Jane Iredale Makeup, not your classic makeup

If good skin starts with the proper cleanser, then it goes to reason, well, at least for most women, that good skin should end with healthy make up. Whereas most make up lines do nothing more than provide coverage and help to camouflage imperfections in the skin, Jane Iredale contains ingredients that act as an addition to skin care. Not only do they NOT contain ingredients that are harmful to the skin, like talc, but this line also adds quality beneficial ingredients to their products.

Jane Iredale is the president and founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetics, a company she founded in 1994 which brought the mineral makeup line Jane Iredale to the aesthetic industry. She was the first to supply this industry with a line of makeup that had skin care benefits.

She was inspired to develop a makeup that was good for the skin by her career in the entertainment industry where she saw actresses and models struggling with the ill-effects of the many kinds of makeup they wore. Her experience in working with women whose careers depended on a clear complexion allowed her to see how skin disorders and sensitivities not only threatened careers, but also destroyed self-confidence.

Jane has always thought of makeup as an essential part of a woman’s sense of well-being and she wanted to make that easy to achieve.  That’s why her mineral powders are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one, and why every product in the line is multi-functional.  Her goal is to make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin.  Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time. This has had an international resonance.  The Jane Iredale brand is carried throughout Canada and world-wide in more than forty countries.

Jane’s success in reaching women of all ages and nationalities is based on the belief that true makeup artistry comes not from trying to make a face conform to the latest fashion trends, but from enhancing the wearer’s natural beauty and, as a result, allowing her personality to shine.

They use the highest quality ingredients available to ensure satisfaction with performance, coverage, application and texture. Jane Iredale minerals conform to the most current technology available that ensure broad spectrum sun protection. The nature of high quality minerals is to interact with light. This is what gives them their celebrated soft-focus effect. Their line includes a variety of foundations that provide a range of finishes from sheer to full, from luminescent to velvety.

Because they use pure mineral pigment with no fillers such as talc, the foundations and concealers give exceptional coverage that requires minimal touch-ups. The foundations form a protective barrier on the skin that allows it to breathe and function normally. Laboratory tests confirm that all of the Jane Iredale products are non-comedogenic (don’t cause comedones/acne) and do not block pores.

Where preservatives are needed, they use a combination of natural preservatives, always excluding parabens and phenoxyethanol. They make a conscious effort to include anti-irritant ingredients in their products because they believe that this can measurably contribute to skin health. Their products are safety tested, allergy tested, clinically tested and dermatologist tested to ensure avoidance of any ingredients that may be skin sensitizers.

Six Jane Iredale products have earned the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation. To earn this seal, a manufacturer must provide scientific data showing that its products sufficiently and safely aid in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin. I think it goes without saying, that Toronto Dermatology Centre is proud to provide Jane Iredale for our patients. And our patients love it!
