Be careful where you get your Botox treatments – make sure you receive your cosmetic treatments from physicians at a proper medical clinic, not in hair salons, spas, etc.
“Health Canada is advising Canadians that it has seized an unauthorized “Botox” product and other unauthorized health products from Arshia Hair Salon and Spa (6062A Yonge Street) in Toronto, ON, because they may pose serious health risks. These products may have been administered as injectable treatments for cosmetic purposes.
Unauthorized health products have not been approved by Health Canada, which means that they have not been assessed for safety, effectiveness and quality. Selling unauthorized health products in Canada is illegal.”

People are getting less than half the sun protection they expect from suntan lotions, according to research.
But the problem isn’t the lotion, it’s our slapdash application of it, King’s College London scientists say.
In theory, using sun protection factor (SPF) 15 sunscreen should be enough to stop sun damage.
But in reality, people need SPF 30 or 50 to be safe, say the study authors, who carried out experiments with volunteers in their lab.

People who struggle with acne know firsthand that breakouts are much more than just a visible blemish; they can be the difference between spending time with friends and not wanting to leave your room, or exuding confidence and feeling insecure. Throw in the pressure to curate social media feeds with HD-perfect, filtered selfies, and it’s a recipe for easily comparing yourself to an unrealistic beauty standard.
Enter #FreeThePimple, a new moment in the acne positivity movement that is about to take over your social media feed.

As Yahoo! reported, British model Louisa Northcote started the hashtag in an effort to encourage an open discussion among people struggling with the physical and emotional effects of acne.
Louisa’s feed is filled with un-retouched images of her own skin, with captions expressing why it’s so important to her to show off the unfiltered version of herself. In one of her first #FreeThePimple posts from March of this year, Louisa shared a heartfelt explanation about why acne visibility and positivity is so important to her. “I am part of a generation that is all about change and speaking up. I suffer with acne so therefore I guess I am not perfect but that is OK,” she wrote. “I spent so many years covering it up, having it affect my day, affect my life and affect my mental health but now I embrace it as it is part of who I am.” Continue to read more.

La Roche-Posay has developed a nail art version of “My UV Patch,” a wearable skin sensor that monitor’s UV exposure. The nail art version, called UV Sense, is an electronic sensor that collects real-time data on UV exposure.
It is less than two millimeters thick, nine millimeters in diameter and is designed to be worn on the thumbnail. It is paired to a smartphone application using NFC technology to collect and display daily UVA and UVB exposure data for up to three months. It also offers personalized sun safety coaching tips, and track trends in UV behavior over time.
“The sun powers the device,” said John Rogers, Ph.D., the engineer who designed the UV dosimeter. “The photodetection unit continuously measures incident UV irradiation, and the cumulative output is captured on a charge storage device that can be read out, at any point, wirelessly via the phone.” Continue to read more.

When it comes to smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, there is no questioning the effectiveness of Botox and similar treatments like Dysport and Xeomin. Now, there’s also a growing trend to stop wrinkles before they start with preventative, also known as “baby,” Botox.
Traditionally, Botox patients have been in their 40s or over and looking to treat existing wrinkles and lines. Today, some patients in their 30s, and even their 20s, are getting treatments in an attempt to limit the severity of wrinkles that may form later, according to Dr. David Shafer, a New York plastic surgeon.
“Preventive Botox helps reduce the formation or worsening of static wrinkles that are seen at rest,” said Dr. Shafer. “Botox can help smooth dynamic wrinkles while also improving or preventing static wrinkles.” Continue to read here.
